Watch out world! Here comes the cutest smiles ever (and possibly the proudest parents!)
Yesterday evening, Aliyah focused on a chirping blue bird toy above her changing table. She thought it was funny and gave a big smile! I laughed so loud it scared her…but it didn’t stop the fun. We’ve been trying to get it on video tape since! When we have luck, we’ll put it on the blog.

You may have heard on the news about the 200-year rainstorm [Washington Post] we’ve had here in the DC area. We made it through fine, thanks for the concerned calls! While we received 12″ of rain in four days, our apartment complex is on a tall hill so we don’t have to worry much about flooding. I have been back at work since last Monday, and luckily my commute wasn’t terribly impacted by the storm. The worst is over and it should be back to our regular humid summer days.

((And for my five minutes of computer time))
Hello World!
Auntie Alyssa (Katrina’s sister) is here to meet Aliyah and help feed her parents! We haven’t done much, but I certainly love every minute that she is here. We’ve gone on walks, entertained friends and even gone out to eat! It’s been wonderful to have her here and I will surly miss being able to laugh at the funny things that Aliyah does together.
The adventures of parenthood continues. Jonathan and I are enjoying the beautiful times with Aliyah and learning how to deal with the ANGRY cries that she has learned. Nighttime schedules haven’t truly been established yet, but we are moving in the right direction. She is becoming very strong and loves to hold her head up a bit. She has learned how to keep her WIDE eyes and tries very hard to focus on things. She has begun tracking and will turn her head towards sounds.
During the late night feedings, I often come up with short thoughts that I think are more pithy at night than they are, but I’ll still share one with you for the posts.
I am not a chew toy.

Just a quick post to let you know that things are going well here with our new family. Aliyah is napping now and I am about to go to sleep myself!
My mom left last Thursday, so now it’s just the three of us. Life is different to say the least. What a blessing to have her here! I had no idea how much help that we would need. She cooked, cleaned, and consoled baby at 4:30 AM a couple of times. Jonathan & I would not have slept the small amount that we did without her. Thank you so much Mom!!
We are settling into a tentative schedule, now that Aliyah is nearly 3 weeks old. She is sleeping nearly 3 hours at a time at night and feeding every 2 hours during the daytime. She is a real sweetheart and I am falling more and more in love.
We have received so many special gifts and cards! Thank you so much!
Cousin Alicia made the beautiful knit dress!

Aunt Nina and Uncle Danny have already turned Aliyah into a Giants Fan!

What a wonderful and terrifying experience parenthood is! Aliyah is doing well and growing like crazy now that we have a semblance of a feeding schedule down. She is very demanding (what baby isn’t?) and LOVES to nurse. We are enjoying every minute of the process…and loving her even when she is crying. I only have a moment to rest before another feeding, so this post is nearly done.
Thank you Thank you to all for the very kind gifts! We are so blessed to be showered with your well wishes, prayers, cards and packages! We’ve already taken some funny pictures with Aliyah with the gifts.
I’ve updated the photos on the gallery. Check them out!
Love,
Katrina, Jonathan & Aliyah
