What to do…when I should be sleeping…

Well world..an update from the land-ruled-by-Aliyah.

Last week, I tried to go to teach a few students at a music store about 30 minutes away. Since I had not had any success in pumping milk, Jonathan being the sweetheart that he is, drove Aliyah and I up to the lessons so that I could feed in between students. It turned out to be a disaster. I didn’t have enough time between students to let Aliyah nurse enough, so she was unsatisfied and cried/screamed Jonathan’s ear off for several hours. The minute that I thought I was free, I packed up quickly, and another brand new student walked into my room! I didn’t even know that he was coming…argh. So I ran out to the car to hear my daughter’s screams. I did a quicky feed (again) and ran back in to teach the random student. Poor Aliyah. By the time I was done, it was well past her bedtime, so the three of us sat in the car in the parking lot and nursed till she was happy and asleep. My heart just broke to think that she was hungry the whole time. Never again. I went to a clinic and rented a professional grade pump. (If you want to know more about the breastpumping saga, let me know–it is a huge pain! Many of you may even have some advice!) Now things are better that we’ve got supplies ready so that I can teach. The hard part is going to be leaving my beautiful bosom buddy!

Last night was hard as well. I don’t know why exactly, but Aliyah just cried all night–when I was at wit’s end, Jonathan calmed her and she slept another hour and a half. I was thankful to get a few minutes of shut-eye.

Today, was our practice round for Jonathan’s first evening of feeding Aliyah as I teach in another town. It was a beautiful experience watching my husband provide sustenance for our baby. Up to till now, he has not had the ability to calm her when she cries out of hunger. Now Daddy can do everything that Mommy can!

On the lighter side, Aliyah is beginning to develop the ability to calm and entertain herself. She loves her bug and bird mobile and stares at black and white objects. She is increasingly more aware and loves to make huge smiling faces at her daddy and mommy. It is the single most fulfilling thing in my entire life. I love the interaction and knowing that she knows us!

That said, it’s time to go and feed my hungry little bird.
Love to you all!

Preliminary Prediction Results

If you thought this was about the World Cup, sorry, ask Jonathan.

So for the baby shower Alyssa & Marla threw for us in December, one of the games was to predict some facts about Aliyah’s birth. A few of the statistics are not available yet, but we can reveal these:

Wendy wins the weight! Her guess–7 lbs, 7 oz; actual–7 lbs, 10 ozs.

Lori & Gramma tie on the length! Their guess was right on: 19.5 inches.

Hairy or Bald? Really Hairy! Winners: Alyssa, Melissa, Lori, Ezzy, Brenda & Jordan.

Many people guessed correctly in the Personality Category! We definetly have a spunky one. Winners are Alyssa, Marla, Connie, Maria, Jessica, Cindy, Patricia, Misty, & Jordan.

But the GRAND PRIZE Winner for the Personality Category is Brenda! Her answer was “She will know how to get what she wants!”

Categories yet to be determined are: first words and eye color. Congratulations to our winners! (Especially to Jordan–the winningest man!)

Epiphany of the day: One can hear so much crying in a day, you can actually imagine baby crying from the static of a baby monitor.
