ohhh…I guess she’s not a newborn anymore

So, no way of getting around it. Aliyah is now a big girl–yesterday she began crawling! I came home from work to find Marla and Jonathan sitting on the floor with Aliyah between them. She had just figured out the alternating knee-and-hand motion. Jonathan described it only as a dad could do.

“She was just getting the hang of pulling her back legs behind her. Then all of a sudden she got her knees up under her and put one knee forward, then a hand, then just kept on coming! She looked up at me and was excitedly yelling ‘Dadadadada!’ She was so proud of herself.”

She showed off a bit for me…gave me a few inches crawl. Jonathan was so proud! Marla was teary-eyed! I am so happy that Marla (sister from CA) was like HERE to witness it. I think that I would have been really bummed if I hadn’t seen her first crawl, but it’s alright because Marla saw it!

So I guess it’s time that we baby-proofed our house in earnest. (sigh) I was lamenting to Jonathan that the crawling signaled the end of babyhood…he is more excited about the new time of life. He shared that he can’t wait till she asked “What’s that??”… can’t wait till he can start really describing and teaching her about the world…can’t wait till he can hold her hand and walk with her in a park. He inspired me to tears. I guess I am not so sad anymore. What a fun time to be parents together. :)

It was amazing!!! I think it has been the highlight of my entire trip here! I really did get choked up… how amazing is it that I was there the exact moment when my niece from across the country started to crawl? It was so wonderful. And seeing the pride and love in Jonathan’s eyes made it just so incredibly special. I’m so proud of my little niece!

Wonderful news! Congratulations and love to you all. Sounds like Aliyah is bringing much happiness to your home. It was hard to keep the tears back just hearing about the milestone. I do understand Jonathan’s point of view but in that sense it just keeps on getting better and better. With all the love and support that baby gets, she has got it made! Thanks so much for looping us in on this happy event.

Ohmigosh! I am so so very happy for you! What fun! These milestones are so memorable – you’ll never forget this day. I know I still remember when you learned to crawl too! Aliyah is so lucky to have such wonderful parents. Makes me feel so grateful that my own daughter has such a loving & caring husband & father of her child. Can’t ask for more! Thank you, Jonathan, from the bottom of my heart for being such a great dad. Katrina, I can fully relate to being sad about the “end” of babyhood – I know I cried buckets over that same issue with all 3 of you – but there really is so much fun to come! You’ll always have your memories as well. (I still take little “heart pictures” everytime something special happens.) Love you all tons & tons! (Marla, you’re one very lucky auntie!!!)

I am excited for you both! I am sure she will making her way around the house now. I look forward to the next visit with ya’ll. I am planning on trying to come up again in March, maybe we can meet again. It was such a blessing in December. Love Ya’ll!
