More learning

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:40 am by Katrina

It’s amazing the capacity the mind has to learn. This week was a fleury of visible learning events in our home. Aliyah loves to turn pages on books now when she is ready for you to continue reading. She further understands cause and effect through button-pushing. She loves discovering and remembering the perfect spot is to turn on music and lights on toys. In the wee hours of the morning a few days ago, we were awakened by a familiar sound:
donka-donk” If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands donka donk. Aliyah’s monkey was left in the crib.
donka-donk” If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands “donka donk.”
We start laughing. She is loves pressing the paws of the monkey to make it sing.
donka-donk” If you’re happy and you know it then your face will surely show it, If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands! “donka donk
Eventually, she tires of pressing the button and we all fall back to sleep with small smiles.

Dad’s will do anything for a laugh. Jonathan hovered over the changing table with his cheeks puffed and his eyes bugged out–Aliyah thought it was so funny. She actually imitated him! Those who have ever seen photos of Aliyah knows that she already has chubby cheeks…but even funnier is to see her try to make them puffier! She puffed her chubby cheeks and made “b” sounds. So baby and Daddy looked silly together making blowing “b” noises and blowfish faces. It was a moment that I’ll not soon forget.

With all of this learning and imitating, I’ve decided to curb my insults towards other drivers. Maybe “punk” and “fool” (among others) should go! It wouldn’t be too funny to hear her use them with grandma or her pediatrician!

Soooo, how long before she picks up the recorder? My niece started saying “pinano” when she was two and would start hitting the keys on my keyboard. So great to see!
