Happy Mother’s Day!
A bit late, but I just had to catch you up on my first Mother’s Day. I was treated royally. Jonathan and Aliyah took me out to a picnic on the Senate side of the capital with beautiful fountains. Jonathan made veggie wraps (is he really becoming a hippie??) Then we went over to the Botanical Gardens and saw the seasonal jungle display. It was a great day–and still pretty cool and breezy.
Oh yeah, this was after Jonathan came home with flowers on Saturday night.
A first to remember for sure!

Happy Mother’s Day!
Aliyah’s birthday was last week too, along with her first party and taste of cake. More to come soon!

We have talked about all the learning that Aliyah has been doing in the past few months. I have been learning too…
I have learned that you do not buy red grapes: they inevitably get dropped and squished onto clothes and stain. Green grapes do not do this.
I have learned that mashed bananas are not the best food to help teach Aliyah to use the spoon. It slides off when she picks it up. Pureed foods are the best since they seem to have a higher viscosity and stick to the spoon better. I also know now that bananas oxidate to a nasty black color if you do not clean them up immediately.
My favorite though is what I have learned about Cheerios. I can now identify the what stage of decomposition a Cheerio is based on its color and consistency.
Cheeri-U’s: these are perfectly good Cheerios that have undergone the baby squish-test to look like a U instead of a perfect circle. I am not sure what Aliyah learns from this test, but all test subjects look the same.
Light and laden: soaked in water or saliva and have that thick wheaty smell. You are lucky if you find them in this stage: feedings were not long ago since they have not become crusty and stuck to the carpet.
Dark and crusty: Found several hours after snack time encrusting the underbelly of the high-chair tray or on the carpet several yards away from the protective mat underneath the feeding area. This stage really makes me want a dog that would eat things off the floor!
I am sure that the learning will continue now that Aliyah is almost one year old! I can’t wait to introduce her to more new foods.
