It’s official. Aliyah is now over 20 pounds! Since she is also over one year old she can now be forward facing in her car seat. Saturday was the first time that she was able to see where we were driving together as a family. She was so excited! Saturday night was a game night for us, so after a few hours of sleeping in the Pack n Play (allowing us to hang out with adult friends) we all went home. She was enraptured by the red brake lights, colored signal lights and white street lights. She was very talkative–I wished that I had had our video camera. The world does sure look interesting after staring at the back of the grey of our car interior!
With that said, now that Aliyah is over 20 pounds, I am going to the gym.

What fun we’ve been having! Jonathan has a few weeks between classes so we’ve been getting out and doing great family things together. A few weeks ago, we went to see the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. It’s like Scottish Games or any other cultural festival. This year they celebrated three cultures: Ireland, Mekong Region (Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, & Vietnam) and Virginia. Yeah, I didn’t know that Virginia was it’s own culture either but you know Southern Folk…
We had a great time, even though there were a bazillion people and a bit hot. We went to a Water Splashing Festival in the Mekong area. They danced in costume with drums and cymbals and sprinkled water on people as a blessing for the new year. Aliyah was mystified and excited! So we joined in the dancing until older kids got access to the water and really started dousing all the people!

We had a great trip to the National Zoo last month. Aliyah loved the birds especially–can you tell?

We had a great holiday–and no freak storm this year either! We hung out with the Stewarts and their two little ones Miles and Lucy. Aliyah loves Miles and Miles gives Aliyah kisses! Is that appropriate? It’s cute in any case. They even shared Miles’ own easy chair.

Aliyah has always loved both of us, but now she is really starting to show it physically. She loves cuddling, hugging and giving kisses! She get super excited to see her daddy after a long day.

We are preparing to come out to California in TWO weeks! We are so excited to see Ezzy get married! Seeing family, of course is always wonderful. Aliyah will probably be walking since she has been taking more and more independent steps. Should be an eventful plane ride! Love you all.
