Folklife Festival
What fun we’ve been having! Jonathan has a few weeks between classes so we’ve been getting out and doing great family things together. A few weeks ago, we went to see the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. It’s like Scottish Games or any other cultural festival. This year they celebrated three cultures: Ireland, Mekong Region (Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, & Vietnam) and Virginia. We had a great time, even though there were a bazillion people and a bit hot. We went to a Water Splashing Festival in the Mekong area. They danced in costume with drums and cymbals and sprinkled water on people as a blessing for the new year. Aliyah was mystified and excited! So we joined in the dancing until older kids got access to the water and really started dousing all the people!
