Happy Halloween!

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:08 pm by Katrina

So maybe I’m a little caught up in this whole thing, but thought that blog world HAD to have timely seasonal photos up pronto. We had a great time at our Moms’ group dressup playdate this morning. Aliyah is the cutest (well one of two cutest) chickens in the world! Aunt Jessie & Uncle Jared sent this comfortable costume that Aliyah barely notices that she’s wearing–making it perfect for funny photos.  We have used it several times this week.  We went to storytime all dressed up, Moms’ group and even visited Daddy at work.

We weren’t sure that we were going to have Aliyah participate in the whole Halloween dressup thing. After several conversations, I believe that it’s a celebration of the goodness of God over the forces of evil. Despite all the ghouls, goblins and witches you see today, know that God’s love is bigger and more powerful than it all.

Parties!

So this weekend was a great weekend. On Saturday (while Jonathan was still taking the exam) Aliyah and I went to a friend’s first birthday party at our church in DC. Millie turned one and had a huge costume-themed party. Aliyah had her pick of costumes, so we went for 49er cheerleader. We had a wonderful time decorating pumpkins and eating indulgent treats.

Jonathan survived and felt good about his comprehensive exams! We were so relieved and excited that the whole family took the rest of the

weekend to goof off! On Sunday, we let Daddy sleep in till 9:45 AM, which used to be a normal wakeup on the weekend. Then we packed up and went to Butler’s Orchard in Germantown, MD. Aliyah was so excited the moment that we were out of the car. It was so fun to participate in the east coast harvest time traditions. We all loved the petting zoo, hay rides, pumpkin picking, and sack slides. We missed going with our church, but I really loved that Jonathan was there for all the “firsts. ”

Happy Birthday Daddy!

On Monday we celebrated Jonathan’s birthday–one year away from a BIG round number…

While Aliyah was enjoying her time with her friends Miles and Lucy, I kidnapped Jonathan from his books. He took the evening off from his studying for the big comprehensive exam (scheduled for October 26-27). Just the two of us went out for sushi in College Park. It was great to have a quiet dinner — I think I even remember tasting the food!

This also marks the day seven years ago when Jonathan proposed to me on at Point Reyes Lighthouse on the California coast. I think I am the best birthday present he’s ever gotten!

How things have changed…

So many of you remember that Jonathan & I have not always been parents. Sometimes seeing things around our place remind me of the fact that our lives have drastically and wonderfully changed.

Yup, those are tiny shoes next to Daddy’s. Now that we have three toothbrushes, does that make us a family? And before you all comment: Yes! We know it’s only the beginning!! We love it and are truly blessed.
