Stamping on the Stump!

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:01 pm by Katrina

Daddy taught Aliyah a new trick…stamping on the stump.

I was really bummed a few weeks ago when our management cut down this tree outside our building. Now it has become one of Aliyah’s favorite things to play on. She climbs up the mound of mulch and stamps on the stump very proudly!

Here she is in a jumpsuit sent from Gramma Connie and Grampa Merv.

(Too bad now that she has learned to stamp her feet, she has begun to do it while throwing a temper tantrum!!)

My Birthday week

I had a great week being honored by all sorts of cards, cakes and phone calls for my birthday. Thanks so much to all!

On Friday, Aliyah took me out to eat for lunch at a new burrito place by our house Qdoba. It was pretty good for a $6 lunch. We had a veggie burrito and guacamole. mmm…

My in-laws gave me a gift of going out to dinner! So Jonathan took me out to a swanky restaurant in DC called Urbana. We had fun with tastings of three different organic red wines. My phone was ringing with people calling with birthday wishes all throughout dinner!

On Saturday night, Erich a friend in my quintet had two extra tickets to see Emmanuel Pahud playing the G Major Mozart Concerto with the National Symphony Orchestra. Since Lauren and I were both having birthdays in the same week, we went together for a girls night out. Pahud was great–such a showy performer! The second half of the concert featuring Dvorak and Smetana was super exciting.

I had a great weekend. Thanks to all of you who called, wrote, & messaged me. I felt very special and I promise to get back to you all to catch up soon.

“Who gave this to me?”

Posted in Uncategorized at 1:49 pm by Katrina

Today, Jonathan gave Aliyah and I both a lesson about love.

He pointed to his wedding band and asked Aliyah:  “Who gave this to Daddy?”

Aliyah proudly exclaimed:  “Mommy!”

And then Aliyah had to endure watching a Mommy/Daddy kiss.  Actually at this age, she doesn’t endure them…she actually just wants in on the action!

What smells? the Yankee Candle Store

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:17 pm by Katrina

Two weeks ago, an old friend Kari, Aliyah& and I traveled down to see the Buffkins in Williamsburg.  Their recommended tourist attraction:  Yankee Candle Store.  Pretty much a Las Vegas style, Costco-sized Yankee Candle Village.  It was massive.  A year round Christmas store, cafe, a center pavilion that had a “sky” that reflected the time of day outside.  If you’ve ever been to the malls in Vegas, you’ve seen the same type of thing.

Anyways, with all the frills (Santa in costume, giant story-telling cuckoo clock) you would think that their bathrooms might be posh.  Nope.  The Yankee Candle Store bathroom still smelled like poo.

Maybe they should try to sell the room fresheners in there??
