Aliyah had her first dentist appointment! We prepared by reading books and studying friends’ pictures (Thanks Violet & Grace!) Aliyah was really brave and actually loved the time in the chair. We had a sensitive, funny, gentle and instructive hygienist — Ms. Melody at Dr. Adly Wilson’s office in Greenbelt.
I was so thankful that Ms. Melody took the time to show Aliyah all the instruments and told her what was going to happen for every step of the cleaning. Dr. Wilson came in afterwards and was equally as congenial.
Aliyah has never shown a strong desire to dress up in girlie clothes. However, Mommy maybe might have created an opportunity for two adorable girls to accidentally find their way into a bag full of dresses. Lauren and her sister, Heather gave us a beautiful dresses that Aliyah and her 18 month old friend Bella loved trying on the other day.
Yes, that's a Cinderella dress to match the Cinderella doll
I know. I know. I have ardently argued against the princess theme–especially princess clothes. I guess I caved and now these adorable dresses are back in a dark corner of the closet to be pulled out again for special occasions…like the next time another cutie little girl comes to play…any takers??
In the beginning on June we had a special visit from Angie Cornett. She was one of the few people that we trusted to watch Aliyah as an infant and she did so with such love and laughter. She blessed our lives more than I can say. Aliyah immediately felt at home with her and was sad to see her go.
We also took advantage of Angie’s visit to see other old friends. Kari Sheets hosted a BBQ and we had a Life reunion! Here are a few from our house church when we first moved to Maryland five years ago!
Here is a series of shots of Aliyah yelling on the playground. She was excited to hear her loud voice in the crawling tube and she was even getting away with it!
While brushing her hair I asked her to “be still” so that I could fix her hair. She responded: “but Mommy, I am just ALIVE!” Jonathan & I laughed so hard that now when I ask her to stop wiggling she says the same thing every time.
Do you remember when khaki pants first became popular? Well, I still have my first pair of tie-front baggy pants. Aliyah looks at me and says, “Mommy, those pants are too big for you!”
I was dressing and Aliyah says “Mom, cute panties!” I recognized a bit of my own voice in hers when I am surprised when my parents wear something fashionable. It’s happening now to me, Connie Mom!
She now wants to travel to the moon thanks to a Berenstein Bears book about astronauts on the moon. Today she said that she could ride the airplane to heaven.
Here are two pictures of Aliyah in her awesome summer dress made by my Aunt Lori. She wore it all over the island and we got lots on compliments on it. Thank you Lori!
We just returned from a wonderful beach vacation in Chincoteague, VA. Our friends the Rices, invited us to stay with them in a beach house named the Yellow House right on the water. Maybe visiting swamp lands is not ideal for the summer time. We donated blood to the mosquito population and dodged biting flies!
For Father’s Day, we hung out on the beach for a few hours and scavenged for sand crabs and shells. Check out the ominous clouds in the pictures. We avoided the rainstorms on this particular day, but the weather did not cooperate the other days.

Happy Father’s Day Jonathan! We are so thankful for you.
I am officially married to a brewer. Jonathan had time to develop actual hobbies while Aliyah & I were in California. So naturally, as a part of our vacation to Assateague, we also visited a famous microbrewery Dogfish Head. Jonathan & Nathan toured the brewery and then we all enjoyed an excellent dinner at the Dogfish Head restaurant.
We also showed our nerdy side by tuning the bottle in an A major scale. (C natural is also pictured for the natural minor scale)
